The Happy "Wonderer"

Saturday Afternoon

On Saturday afternoon, we tackled the four options for reconfiguration as we had in the morning, but this time from two new perspectives.

  • Before our working sessions, however, three "Happy Wonderers" (played by Kentucky sisters) visited the room with an hilarious comic break, entertaining all with their dance and song about Clustering, sung to the tune of "The Happy Wanderer."
  • Our first afternoon tables were arranged according to age cohorts and we considered the four options for reconfiguration with the lens of our age groups. Table facilitators led the discussions and recorded the work of the table. This time, four questions guided our discussions:
    1) What excites you about this option?
    2) Do you have any concerns?
    3) What potential might this option have for your age group?
    4) Any other reflections?
After our table discussions, some tables shared their responses with the larger group.
  • We returned from a break to new table configurations. This time we were to consider the options from a ministry perspective. For many, it was an invigorating experience to meet Sisters from other congregations with similar ministries. Acknowledging that we had all thoroughly discussed the options with two other groups, and that the table discussion might take a different course, we did have three questions presented to us in case they were helpful:
    1) Is there any way this option might limit your ministry?
    2) What potentials for the future might this option have for your ministry?
    3) Any other reflections?
After our table discussions, some tables shared their responses with the larger group.
  • After a hard day's work, we celebrated Eucharist together and then a wonderful dinner.
  • During the lunch and dinner breaks and into the late evening, a group of about a dozen Sisters worked diligently to distill and compile all the table reports (from 40+ tables in each of the three sessions!). Their results were distributed Sunday morning, with the disclaimer that it was a rough sketch of the input and that the Reconfiguration Subcommittee would work with the original table sheets in the coming weeks to mold and refine the options.
