The Eucharistic Christ called Mothers Catharine Bostick and Margaret
Grouchy to establish “the Eucharistic Mission” in the small
town of
Amite, Louisiana, in 1927. Other women from Louisiana and beyond, inspired
by these pioneering women, joined in their ministry among people who
were in any way distant from the traditional ministry of parishes, educational
and social services. Jesus’ story about the call “to go
to the open roads and hedgerows... to ensure that the banquet hall is
full” continues to animate this 35-member New Orleans-based congregation
into truly Dominican itinerancy. Today, Eucharistic Missionary
Dominican Sisters minister among
the poorest and most powerless in religious education, faith and human
development, nursing, home health, home visitation and social work.
Forty-four associate members share as they are able in “the Eucharistic
Mission.”
